Pakistan captain Babar Azam has said that his batting-unit will look to balance the proactive approach with respecting the conditions and opposition bowlers during the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan's batting came in for heavy criticism during the Australian series earlier this year for their lack of intent despite playing on flat tracks.
The home side lost that series 0-1, and the upcoming two-match affair against Sri Lanka will be an opportunity for them to set the record straight.
"We are trying to change the way we play Test cricket. Not easy for batters when the other team is dominating you," said Babar as quoted by PTI.
"We want to play positively irrespective of the situation but it is only on a given day that we can decide how to win the match and our strategy," Babar added.
"But you must remember that the beauty of Test cricket is about adapting according to the situation. You can't go for quick runs if the opposition is on top," he said.
Babar keeping an eye on SL-AUS series
Azam and his men have been keeping a close look on the proceedings of ongoing Test series between Australia and Sri Lanka, where the tourists thumped the islands inside three days in a spin shoot-out.
With Yasir Shah, Nauman Ali and Mohmmad Nawaz in their ranks, Babar is confident of his spinners exploiting the conditions they are likely to encounter.
"We have been following their recent Tests also against Australia and you can see spinners are dominating. But we have also prepared as per their conditions and we have capable spinners in Yasir Shah, Nauman Ali, Nawaz to counter the conditions," he said.
The two-match Test series will commence at Galle from July 16.
