  • Shut Up And Let Us Do The Umpiring Says Umpire Kettleborough To Stuart Broad

'Shut up and let us do the umpiring,' says umpire Kettleborough to Stuart Broad

Umpire Richard Kettleborough asked Stuart Broad to shut up and focus on his batting during Day 3 of the rescheduled fifth Test between England and India.

It was during the 55th over, Broad was just facing the second delivery of his innings against Mohammed Shami, who bowled a mean bouncer, at his helmet and Broad managed to duck under that, dropping his wrists at the last moment.

The ball kept going and beat Pant’s gloves for four byes. Broad apparently wanted to know about how many balls had been called short for the over and walked to the umpire Kettleborough for an enquiry.

The umpire forcefully asked Broad to take a back seat and leave the umpiring to the officials. Broad was told by Kettleborough to not repeat the same mistake and concentrate on his batting.

“Let us do the umpiring, you do the batting, alright?” said Kettleborough.

“Otherwise you’re going to get into trouble again. One for the over. Broady, Broady, get on with the batting and shut up.”

Kettleborough warning to Broad about not falling into trouble again possibly refers to the England seamer’s recent penalisation for breaching the ICC code of conduct in the Headingley Test against New Zealand.

This is not the first time in recent years, Broad has received demerit points. He twice received demerit points in 2020, when he was involved in directing an inappropriate word at Yasir Shah after taking his wicket. And another one for using inappropriate language towards Faf du Plessis which was audible on the stump mic.

When a player reaches four or more demerit points within 24 months, the demerit points are converted into suspension points leading to a player getting suspended from international cricket.

Two suspension points mean a ban for either one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is depending on which game is first.

Broad receiving the demerit point against South Africa back in January 2020 is no longer on his current record.
