It's a great chance for us to show our abilities: Mahedi Hasan on the Zimbabwe tour

Bangladesh all-rounder Mahedi Hasan said the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe will be an ideal opportunity for the younger players to showcase their talent.

Bangladesh are set to travel to Zimbabwe for three T20Is and as many ODIs, starting on July 30 in Harare. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has rested several senior players for the T20Is. Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim have been rested for the three-match T20I series.

Nothing to prove against Zimbabwe, says Mahedi

The Bangla Tigers will play a bilateral series for the first time in many years without the presence of their experienced players which might appear as a challenge for them. However, Mahedi feels the team has nothing to prove.

"We have nothing to prove. Some days will come when seniors won’t be there. Some among us will become seniors. Once Shakib (Al Hasan) Bhai, Tamim (Iqbal) Bhai, and Ryad (Mahmudullah) Bhai also started their careers as junior members of the team," Mahedi Hasan told the reporters on Tuesday.

Mahedi, who has played 34 T20Is and 3 ODIs so far in his career believes that the upcoming tour will provide a "great chance" for the young players to show their abilities.

"When we were newcomers, the senior players took all the responsibilities as the parents do for young children. Since we won't get the service of the senior players, we will have to make our decisions. It's a great chance for us to show our abilities."
