SL vs AUS | David Warner pens message to Sri Lankan fans after conclusion of the bilateral series

Swashbuckling opener David Warner penned an emotional note for the Sri Lankan public, thanking them for their hospitality after the Aussies finished off their tour of the island nation on Monday following a crushing defeat in the 2nd Test in Galle.

A brilliant double-century from Dinesh Chandimal and a 12-wicket-haul from debutant left-arm orthodox Prabhat Jayasuriya sealed Australia's fate in the 2nd Test as the visitors crumbled to a chastening defeat by an innings & 39 runs.

Despite being severely plagued with Covid cases, the home sides' performance must have put some smiles on the faces of the people, who are currently battling the country's worst-ever economic crisis.

Warner, who had an abysmal series with the bat, took to his official account to salute the fighting spirit of the Lankan people besides thanking them for their hospitality towards the Australian team.

"Thank you, Sri Lanka, for hosting us here during what is an extremely difficult time. We are so grateful to be able to come here and play the game we love and know you all love supporting," Warner wrote.

"You have opened your arms up to us, and we will never forget this trip. What I love about your amazing country is no matter the circumstances, you always have a smile on your face and are always so welcoming," Warner added.

"Thank you, and I can't wait to one day visit for a holiday with my family," the ex-skipper concluded.

As far as the overall results of the tour are concerned, Australia must be heavily disappointed.

After winning the T20I series 2-1, the Aaron Finch-led unit suffered a 2-3 defeat in the One-day internationals. At the same time, similar failings with the bat and ball ensured that they squandered the opportunity to win a Test series in Sri Lanka after 11 years.

As for the Sri Lankan players, they'd be happy and proud that they were able to bring smiles to the faces of their people with their performances over the last month.
