Mackenzie Harvey extends his stay at the Melbourne Renegades

Melbourne Renegades roped in Mackenzie Harvey on Tuesday (July 12) until the end of the Big Bash League season 13.

Earlier this year, Renegades decided to retain the exciting left-handed batter for the forthcoming season of the Big Bash League- BBL 12, and now he earns another contract which enables him to play for the Melbourne-based franchise for another year. His contract will last until the end of next year's BBL.

The 21-year-old Victorian batter has been a part of the Renegades setup since the 2017-18 edition of the Big Bash. In January 2018, at the age of 17, he was drafted in by the Melbourne Renegades as a replacement player for Aaron Finch for the 2017-18 Big Bash League season but, unfortunately, didn't get the opportunity to showcase his talent.

He made his T20 debut for Renegades in the 2018–19 Big Bash League season on December 29 2018. In the same edition of the BBL, Aaron Finch led the club to its first title when the Renegades beat the Melbourne Stars in the BBL|08 Final on February 17, 2019, at the Marvel Stadium. Harvey was part of that squad.

From that season onwards, Harvey has established himself as a versatile batter and one of the best fielders in the league.

In the last edition of the BBL, Harvey played 12 matches for the Renegades and emerged as their second-highest run-scorer with 231 runs, which included two half-centuries with a top score of 71*.

"I'm excited to be extending my time at the club and to now be locked in for the next two seasons," said Mackenzie Harvey, who has played 35 games for the Renegades.

"On a personal level, I feel like I've come a long way with my cricket over the last couple of years and can have an impact on the team whether that's at the top or through the middle order. There's still plenty of room for me to grow and some great players at the (Melbourne) Renegades for me to learn from,"

"We have a really strong bond within our playing group at the Renegades. We haven't performed the way we would have liked in recent times, but we know we have the talent and experience to turn things around, which is what we're determined to do this season,"

"Mackenzie (Harvey) is an important part of our future, and it's pleasing to have him commit until the end of BBL|13," said Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten.

"He's a young leader within our group with a real appetite to improve as a player. He's an exceptional fielder and offers great versatility to our batting group as someone who can adjust to various roles in the top and middle order. Mackenzie's still only 21 years of age but has a great base now to hopefully take his game to another level over the next couple of years," he concluded.

Melbourne Renegades Squad for the BBL 12 (so far): Nic Maddinson (Captain), Zak Evans, Aaron Finch, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Mackenzie Harvey, Shaun Marsh, Kane Richardson
