SL vs AUS | Australia announce playing XI for 1st ODI; Kane Richardson ruled out

After the T20Is, Sri Lanka and Australia will clash in a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series starting June 14. The visitors will miss the services of fast bowler Kane Richardson, who has been flown home after suffering a severe hamstring injury.

However, Aaron Finch will lead a strong XI that sees the return of Marnus Labuschagne, Ashton Agar, and Pat Cummins, who did not play a part in the T20Is.

Skipper Finch revealed that Richardson played with a tendon injury during Australia's loss in the third and final T20I on Saturday evening and is expected to be out of commission for six weeks. However, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis will provide their pacers with some relief amidst this gruelling leg.

According to cricket.com.au, in the ODI series across both venues, Finch said,

"We saw in the first couple of overs the other day (for the third T20) that there was enough pace and bounce in the wicket for quicks to have an effect."

"We still feel that going with the one spinner and the all-rounders in Maxwell and Stoinis, Marnus can bowl a few overs here and there as well, that we feel we've got enough cover for that fifth bowler."

"We feel as though two out-and-out spinners probably won't be required as much on this surface but into Colombo, that'll be that'll be definitely considered."

Richardson suffered an injury during the warm-up and is the second paceman after Sean Abbott to be ruled out of the tour.

The paceman suffered a similar injury before Australia's ODI series in Pakistan.

Test sensation Scott Boland has been called in as his cover. Mitchell Starc, who missed the last two T20Is due to a finger injury, remains unavailable.

Travis Head, who scored plenty against Pakistan, is on the bench with the arrival of David Warner and Steve Smith. He will play a four-day game against Sri Lanka instead of the Australia A side.

The first two ODIs will be played at Pallekele, while the remaining three matches will take place at R Premadasa in Colombo.

A two-match Test series will be played after the conclusion of the limited-overs leg.
