  • Pak Vs Wi 3Rd Odi Shadabs All Round Performance Brings Curtains Down On West Indies

PAK vs WI | 3rd ODI | Shadab's all-round performance brings curtains down on West Indies

As it happened, 'all-rounder' Shadab Khan nailed a match-winning performance with both bat and ball to help Pakistan inflict a whitewash on the West Indies at Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday (June 12).

Despite Akeal Hosein's late scare, West Indies went empty-handed back to the Caribbean as the Nicholas Pooran-led outfit was bundled out in the 38th over for 216 runs while chasing a target of 270.

The match was cut-short to 48 overs per side, with a dust storm marking its presence in Multan.

Set on the run-chase of 270, West Indies did not enjoy the best of starts, losing both of their openers- Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers inside the powerplay. While Shahnawaz Dahani found his debut wicket in Mayers, Hope's evening ended at the hands of Hasan Ali.

Shamarh Brooks also had an off-day, losing his wicket to Mohammad Wasim Jr after scoring a sedate 26-ball 18.

From thereon, the spin duo of Shadab and Mohammad Nawaz ran riot as the Windies' middle-order fell from the cliff. Skipper Pooran and dynamic hitter Rovman Powell extended their disappointing run in the series, sending West Indies down the drain again.

With the visitors stuttering at 115/7, all seemed lost; however, they found hope in the form of Akeal Hosein, who brought his unrivalled striking to the fore. Hosein scored 60 of just 37 deliveries and stitched a 49-run partnership with Romario Shepherd to fill the West Indies tank with some fuel.

Just when it started to look a bit bright for the Men in Maroon, Shadab struck again with the wicket of Hosein to bring a virtual end to the game. Soon after, West Indies got all out 216, losing the match by 53 runs (DLS method).

Earlier in the day, Pakistan, after opting to bat first, opened to a great start, courtesy of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, who shared an 85-run stand for the first wicket.

An unlikely hero emerged with the ball for the West Indies. Pooran made sure that Pakistan's innings went through regular jitters, ending with the figures of 4/48 in his 10 overs.

While Pakistan's middle-order was reduced to bits, 'Man of the Match' Shadab Khan rose to the occasion and smashed his way to an 86-run knock, ensuring that the home side reach to a total of 269/9 in the process.

Brief scores:

Pakistan - 269/9 (48)

Shadab Khan 86(78), Imam-ul-Haq 62(68);

Nicholas Pooran 4-48 (10), Keemo Paul 2-57 (9)

West Indies - 216/10 (37.2)

Akeal Hosein 60(37), Keacy Carty 33(45);

Shadab Khan 4/62 (9), Hasan Ali 2/29 (5.2)

Pakistan won by 53 runs (DLS method).
