SL vs AUS | Agar will play as the frontline spinner in the white ball series: Finch ahead of SL T20Is

The Australian captain Aaron Finch has indicated that Ashton Agar will lead the Aussie spin attack in the absence of Adam Zampa in Australia's upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

Speaking to cricket.com.au, Finch hailed Agar's exploits in T20s in recent years, establishing him as one of the country's finest bowlers in the shortest format.

"He has proved over the last couple of years that he is one of the best in the world in the T20 format for Australia. The fact we have been able to win a world cup having the strength of Ash not in the XI is super for the group," Finch said.

After being ruled out of the 2021 World Cup midway owing to injury, Agar stormed his way back into Australia's T20 team in the home series against Sri Lanka, in which he picked 3 wickets from as many games at a surreal economy.

Admiring the left-arm tweaker's fighting spirit, Finch said that the way Agar bounced back and grabbed his chances gleefully in both hands shows his extraordinary character.

Continuing, the Australian captain backed the Western-Australian to play as Australia's primary spin option on the Sri Lankan tour.

"And what he has shown with his disappointment of missing out during that world cup, his ability to bounce back and take his opportunities every time he has had them shows the character of the person and what kind of a team man he is. He will certainly get a lot of opportunities on this tour to play that frontline spinner's role in both the white-ball formats of the game," the 35-year-old concluded.

Australia's tour of Sri Lanka begins on June 7 with a three-match T20I series, following which both teams will cross swords in five ODIs and two Tests.
