MI's Tactical Move Backfires vs LSG
The retirement-out move, designed to inject fresh batting strength into the game, proved ineffective as MI fell short by 12 runs, finishing with 191/5. Despite a late flurry by Hardik Pandya, who managed a six off the first ball of the final over. The Mumbai side failed to close the gap, with Santner facing just two balls in the final moments of the match.
Former India cricketers, including Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Mohammad Kaif, joined in the chorus of disapproval. They found no logic behind sending in Mitchell Santner. While MI’s coaching staff, including Jayawardene, defended the move as a tactical one, suggesting that Tilak Varma had been struggling to find his rhythm.
It is important to mention that Mumbai Indians are currently placed at the 7th position of the points table with just two points in four matches they have placed so far.
