Shaun Pollock backs Yuzvendra Chahal for a spot in the WT20 squad

The renaissance of Yuzvendra Chahal in the IPL 2022 is getting considered one of the most significant developments in Indian cricket. Chahal, who was replaced by Rahul Chahar in India's 2021 T20 World Cup squad, seems to have got his mojo back as he currently occupies the top spot in the list of highest wicket-takers in the ongoing IPL season.


The former South African bowler Shaun Pollock believes that Chahal is a front runner in the race of spinners who desire to get a place in India's 2022 T20 world cup squad. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Pollock said that Chahal has worked extremely hard on his bowling, which is evident from his improved performances this season. Pollock also termed the Indian tweaker as a nice character and wished to see him back representing India in the mega event to be played in Australia later this year.  


"There is no doubt Yuzi has got his form back. He's really starting to look the part again. You can see that little bounce in his step. He's got the deliveries coming out nicely," Pollock said. 


"I would think he would be a firm favourite now to go to the T20 World Cup. I just like to see him back. He's just such a nice character. Spent a bit of time with him in Mumbai. He's so much fun. When things are going well on the field, it's such a nice package to have him in the team environment," he further added. 


Chahal has been in fabulous touch in this year's IPL as he currently occupies the top spot in the list of highest wicket-takers, with 22 wickets from 11 games. His incredible form with the ball has been one of the major reasons behind RR's phenomenal performance this year. 


India's call to exclude Chahal from the 2021 World Cup squad was criticised on a large scale. However, the former Proteas captain justified Chahal's non-selection in that world cup by stating that the experienced spinner was nowhere close to his best at the time of the team selection. 


"In all honesty, Chahal wasn't anywhere near the right form when it came to the last World Cup. He was out of form; he was bowling flat deliveries. He wasn't confident to give it air. He had lost his mojo. That happens to you as individuals," the 48-year-old concluded.

Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan are better than Kohli, Bumrah and Pant, says Aqib Javed

Former fast bowler Aqib Javed has claimed that Pakistan stars Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammed Rizwan are better players than their respective Indian counterparts Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. Javed said that although the aforementioned Indian players are extremely skilful, their Pakistani counterparts are doing much better at the international level currently which ultimately makes them better players. The comparison between Virat and Babar has been simmering for quite a while now. Talking about this comparison, Javed asserted that Kohli is already past his prime, whereas Babar’s stature as a cricketer is gradually increasing with each passing day. Therefore, the Lahore Qalandar’s head coach believes that the Pakistan captain is a superior batsman to the Indian legend at present. “Now I think Babar is ahead. Kohli had his peak but now he is going down. But Babar, on the other hand, is going up”, Javed said. Answering the question regarding the better bowler between Bumrah and Afridi, Javed said that the latter came into the scene when Bumrah already established himself as a fierysome fast bowler. But the former has proved himself an even better bowler on many occasions. “I now think that Shaheen is better than Bumrah because when Shaheen came into the international circuit Bumrah had already established himself and the critics used to say that Bumrah is doing well in Tests, T20Is, and so but now Shaheen has proved he is even better and has more capacity than Bumrah,” Javed was quoted by ARY News. Aqib Javed, who represented Pakistan in 185 international matches, also gave his opinion on the constant comparisons between Rizwan and Pant. The Punjab-born pacer said that although Pant is a ferocious hitter of the cricket ball, the art of taking responsibility with utmost perfection makes Rizwan a finer batsman. “Rizwan is better than Pant these days. There is no doubt that Pant is an extremely skilful player but the way Rizwan takes the responsibility, Pant is well behind him. It is often said that Pant is an aggressive player, but the aggressiveness doesn’t mean to hit a couple of big shots and got out but to stay at the crease, fight, and finish the game,” the 49-year-old concluded.
