The experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been appointed as the captain of the Bangladesh T20I team for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.
Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh T20I team
The decision came following a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meeting on Saturday (13 August). Shakib will replace Mahmudullah Riyad, who was removed from the leadership role last month.
Asia Cup will be held from 27 August to 11 September in UAE. Afterwards, the T20 World Cup will take place in October-November in Australia.
Recently, the 35-year-old had been in hot waters due to his association with 'Betwinner News', a betting company. However, he has resolved the issues with BCB after ending the contract with the concerned entity.
BCB cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus thinks Shakib is still the best cricketer in the country, despite controversies around him.
"Shakib has been named the captain for the tri-nation series, T20 World Cup, and the Asia Cup," said Yunus to the media.
"The logic [behind making him the captain] is that Shakib is still our best cricketer."
