Their star left-arm bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to a knee injury. Along with Asia Cup, Afridi is all set to miss the seven-match T20I series against England as well.

As a part of his rehabilitation program, the 22-year-old travelled to the Netherlands with the Pakistan team for the three-match One-Day series. However, after scans and a thorough checkup by the trainer and the physiotherapist, Afridi has been advised a rest of four to six weeks.

Shaheen dismissed India’s top-three batters in T20 World Cup last year

Afridi’s absence from the Asia Cup isn’t good for Pakistan as the bowler played a vital role for his team in the T20 World Cup last year. The Men in Green will be kickstarting their campaign in the T20 event with a clash against India on August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Though Younis wished good health for the bowler, he believes that the absence of Afridi will be a big relief for India’s top order. Notably, the 22-year-old had wreaked havoc during the T20 World Cup last year. He had dismissed India’s top-three batters including the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli.

Shadab Khan reflects of the pacer’s injury

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s vice-captain Shadab Khan also elaborated his opinion of missing the services of the left-arm pacer in the T20 extravaganza. Shadab is hoping for Shaheen to get fit before the T20 World Cup. ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be conducted in Australia from October 16.
