Senior Women's T20 | International ladies show lionheartness on Day 5

Day 5 of the Senior Women’s T20 League saw Jemimah Rodrigues’ heroics go futile. Her counterpart, Harmanpreet Kaur, led from the front to secure a victory for Punjab. Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia starred in Haryana and Baroda’s victories respectively.

Bhatia shines in Baroda’s close win over Uttar Pradesh

Young Indian top-order batter, Yastika Bhatia, struck her second fifty on the trot as Baroda chased down Uttar Pradesh’s target with two balls to spare.

Electing to bat first, UP got off to a steady start, with their first wicket falling on 42. However, once the third wicket fell, the Radha Yadav-led unit bundled out like a pack of cards. Skipper Yadav scalped three wickets with her left-arm spin.

But as mentioned above, Yastika took her team home with her staggering play. She also had an excellent day with the gloves, as she had four stumpings to her name.

Brief scores: Baroda 121/4 in 19.4 overs (Yastika Bhatia 72*, Rashi Kanojiya 22/2) defeated Uttar Pradesh 120/8 in 20 overs (Shipra Giri 36, Radha Yadav 20/3, Tarannum Pathan 16/2) by 6 wickets.

Rodrigues’ 93 goes in vain as Punjab stifle Mumbai

Jemimah Rodrigues is making a strong case for herself to come back into the Indian setup. Opening the batting for Mumbai, she took on Punjab’s bowlers to the cleaners. Her scintillating knock of 93 was studded with eleven fours and three sixes.

However, in reply, Punjab made short work of a seemingly stiff target. Veteran batter and Punjab’s leader Harmanpreet Kaur (57*) played the finisher’s role to perfection after Taniya Bhatia’s 51 had laid the foundation for the chase.

Brief scores: Punjab 160/3 in 17.4 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 57*, Taniya Bhatia 51) defeated Mumbai 156/6 in 20 overs (Jemimah Rodrigues 93, Komalpreet Kaur 25/1) by seven wickets.

Shafali leads Haryana to a clinical victory over Saurashtra

Swashbuckling young Indian opener Shafali Verma led Haryana to victory over Saurashtra. Haryana’s bowlers were on song right from the start. Mansi Joshi trapped Nimavat before the wicket on the innings’ second ball. Haryana went on to restrict Saurashtra to 98/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, the former got off to a roaring start as skipper Shafali made full use of the fielding restrictions. She sent the ball to the boundary six times and cleared the ropes thrice. Though she fell soon after her fifty, Haryana scaled down the target in 17 overs.

Brief scores: Haryana 102/2 in 17 overs (Shafali Verma 51, T Dharani 20/2) defeated Saurashtra 98/6 (M Jadeja 36, Triveni Vasistha 8/2) by eight wickets.
