Pakistan once again embroiled itself in controversy by having a pitch invader who jeopardised the players' safety during the New Zealand vs Bangladesh clash in the Champions Trophy 2025. The invader has been put behind bars and banned from entering the venue in future.
The 2025 Champions Trophy turned out to be Pakistan's nightmare since the host side got eliminated from the competition following defeats in the initial two games against New Zealand and India.
Intruder arrested after invading playing area
In a dramatic twist in the Champions Trophy 2025, there was a grave security failure at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A pitch intruder was able to outsmart the security and embrace New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra.
The intruder said to be with a picture of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan president Saad Rizvi, was quickly apprehended and taken before the court.
Rachin Ravindra, who was playing his first match of the tournament after recovering from an injury, appeared visibly displeased as the invader approached him. Security personnel, however, came down quickly to take him out of the field.
As a penalty, the intruder has been arrested and permanently banned from watching cricket matches in Pakistan.
