The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, which marked the return of the team's front-line pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.
The squad for the showpiece event also saw some notable absentees that came as a bit of a surprise for the cricket fans and fraternity.
While there was no doubt over Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant's inclusion into the squad, the omission of Kerala wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson has left the fans stunned.
The Rajasthan Royals' captain also failed to make it to the T20I squad against Australia and South Africa lined up this month. Earlier, he was also snubbed from India's Asia Cup squad.
Sanju Samson made the opportunities count
Not long ago, Samson led Rajasthan Royals to the final of IPL 2022 where his team ended up as runners-up. The Kerala batter played a pivotal role for his team with the bat, scoring 458 runs in 17 matches at an average of 28.63 and with a strike rate of 146.79.
Samson was also part of the Indian team that visited Ireland, England, West Indies, and Zimbabwe earlier this year. Overall, the swashbuckling batter played 6 T20Is this year and has piled up 179 runs at a staggering average of 44.75 and strike rate of 158.40.
However, despite making the opportunities count and giving impactful performances with the bat, Samson has not been considered in any of the Indian squads for the upcoming assignments of team India.
The exclusion of Samson from the T20 WC squad didn’t go down well with the netizens on social media as they took to Twitter to express their disappointment.
While some fans called out the BCCI for doing 'Injustice' to Samson, others blamed the management for 'robbing' his spot in the squad.
Here's how Twitter reacted to Sanju Samson's exclusion:
