Saha does not want to feature in Ranji Trophy Knockouts for Bengal, CAB President

With the Ranji Trophy 2022 Knockouts just around the corner, the Bengal team faces a few internal problems. Bengal, who are set to face Jharkhand in their quarter-final tie from June 6 in Bangalore, will be without the services of Wriddhiman Saha, who has confirmed that he does not want to play for the stateside.

According to IndianExpress, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya has said all attempts to talk to Saha have not been fruitful.

"The Cricket Association of Bengal wanted Wriddhiman Saha to play for Bengal at this crucial juncture, especially when Bengal would be fighting in the knockout stage in a bid to win the Ranji Trophy after becoming the top-ranked team in the country at the end of the group stage. I had expressed this to Wriddhiman and requested him to reconsider his decision. However, Wriddhiman has now communicated to us that he is not willing to play the Ranji Trophy knockouts," Dalmiya was quoted.

Saha has already left the Bengal Ranji Team WhatsApp group, apart from asking for inter-state NOC from CAB. The entire Saha fiasco started when he was dropped from India's Test side, where the 37-year-old expressed his displeasure.

He further decided to opt out of Ranji Trophy league games, which was criticized by the CAB joint-secretary back then.

"What to do? If he is that stubborn, we have to give him. But nobody should try to arm-twist the state association, as it is bigger than any individual, the unnamed official communicated.

Out of favour, the Indian keeper has played 122 First-Class games for Bengal, amassing 6,423 runs with 13 centuries and 38 half-centuries, making his debut way back in 2007.

Bengal's coaching staff member stated that they are planning to move on from all this.

"I won't comment about Saha's decision to pull out. But now that the picture is clear, we can plan accordingly," he explained.

Saha has been in top form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Gujarat Titans (GT), having scored 313 runs at an average of 34.66.

Everest Premier League files petition against Cricket Association of Nepal's official T20 league

T20 cricket is a money-spinning business model that every cricket governing body wants to implement. Last week, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the country's first-ever official 20-over league title, Nepal T20. Even before the event's commencement, it is facing opposition from the organizers of the Everest Premier League (EPL) T20. The owners, Everest Premier League Private Ltd, and all six franchises have filed a writ petition in Nepal's Supreme Court on Thursday, asking for a stay order over the planned CAN's league. According to Kathmandu Post, EPL's statement read, "EPL and all franchises have unanimously decided to seek appropriate legal recourse as per the prevailing laws of Nepal. Therefore, a writ petition has been filed before the Supreme Court of Nepal, praying for a stay order against the erroneous decision of CAN. We have full faith and humbly believe that the judiciary will grant us appropriate remedy." EPL owners also want CAN to do away with their deal with Seven3Sports, which handles the commercial and strategic side of the tournament. The event management firm is based in India. The planned Nepal T20 League will commence on September 24 and end on October 22. The premier governing body for cricket in Nepal has made it clear that they will not sanction any other T20 league in the country. The EPL T20 League started in 2016 and is about to begin its fifth edition in November. In their statement, all concerned parties in the EPL have stated that they will boycott all cricketing events organized by CAN if their league is not approved. "Availing the services of a foreign company by discretely entering into a private agreement and neglecting the prevalent laws of Nepal not only raises numerous questions about the entire decision-making process and the motive of CAN, but is also non-transparent, arbitrary and deeply encroaches upon our legal and constitutional rights," the press release said. EPL has seen foreign players like Shahid Afridi, Upul Tharanga, Paul Stirling, Sikander Raza, and Tamim Iqbal, amongst others, participate over the years.
