Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been reprimanded by the match referee Manu Nayyar for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the Eliminator encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu star, who is undergoing one of the most impressive seasons of his IPL career, was charged with level one offence under article 2.3 of the IPL code of conduct and accepted the sanction.
Article 2.3 lists the use of an audible obscenity such as the utterance of something offensive during the course of the match, which can be heard by the spectators and/or the viewing public either by stump-microphone or otherwise as an offence. This article also categorises the act of swearing in frustration at one’s own play or fortune as misconduct.
Therefore, it is believed that Karthik has probably committed one of the aforementioned mistakes. Apart from Karthik, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur are among the notable players who have been either fined or reprimanded for breaching the IPL's code of conduct this season.
To note, Dinesh Karthik has had a magnificent IPL this season as the experienced finisher has amassed 324 runs at an astounding average of 64.80 and an unbelievable strike rate of 187.28. This sort of impressive performance has awarded him a recall into the Indian T20 side for the upcoming home series against South Africa.
With the T20 world cup around the corner, the veteran batter would certainly like to cement his place in the national side by performing admirably in the South African series.
