India regular Test captain Virat Kohli did not come out for the toss for the second Test of the series against South Africa in Johannesburg. Opener KL Rahul, who was appointed vice-captain for the tour in the absence of Rohit Sharma, walked out for the toss and clarified the reason behind Kohli's absence.
He said that Kohli suffered an upper back spasm and hence could not make it for the game and Hanuma Vihari has made his return to the Test side after a gap of one year. He last played for India in the famous Sydney Test against Australia exactly the same time last year.
"Virat is having an upper back spasms," Rahul says. "Every Indian player dreams to captain his country. Really looking forward to this. We will look to put some runs on the board and put the opposition under pressure. Hanuma Vihari comes in for Virat. No other change,” Rahul said at the toss.
The hosts made two changes to their playing XI and welcomed back Duanne Olivier in place of all-rounder Wiaan Mulder while the wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreyne has replaced Quinton de Kock for the second Test.
India have an enviable record at the Wanderers as they have not lost even one game from the five matches they have played at the venue. They have won two Test matches at the venue while drawing the other three games. Two of the last three wins in the country have come at the Wanderers for the men in blue.
