Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has finally decided to hang his boots in international cricket and would be making the announcement public very soon if reports are to be believed.
The 41-year-old, who made his international debut in an ODI against Zimbabwe in 2003, has so far played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan, amassing 12,780 runs across formats. Hafeez an impressive right-hander at the top order and a more than able off-spinner who could very well bowl four overs in T20Is and five-seven ODIs also picked up 253 wickets as well.
Hafeez earned 32 Player-of-the-Match awards in his career. In fact, his award-winning show was only behind those of some of Pakistan’s greats like Shahid Afridi (43), Wasim Akram (39) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (33). He even won nine Player-of-the-Series awards, joint-second most for a Pakistan player with legendary players like Imran Khan, Inzamam and Waqar Younis having scored the same number.
Having led the Pakistan team in two T20 World Cups, he also holds the Pakistan record for most T20 World Cup appearances. The Professor as he is known left Test cricket in December 2018 and ODIs in 2019. His last T20I appearance was in Pakistan’s loss to Australia in the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final.
Hafeez, an important member of the Lahore Qalandars side would continue being available for franchise cricket throughout the world.
