Roy Kaia suspended from bowling

Zimbabwe's Roy Kaia was suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect after his action was found to be illegal, confirmed the ICC. The right-arm bowler was reported during the Test match against Bangladesh at home.

An expert panel gave a verdict that Kaia’s bowling action exceeded the permissible 15 degrees after reviewing. He can though apply for reassessment after making a tweak in his action.

"In accordance with Article 11.1 of the ICC Regulations For The Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspect Illegal Bowling Actions, Kaia's international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all National Cricket Federations for domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction," the ICC said.

“However, according to Article 11.5 of the Regulations and with the consent of Zimbabwe Cricket, Kaia may be able to bowl in domestic cricket events played under their auspices."

He bowled a total of 23 overs during the one-off Test against Bangladesh but failed to pick any wickets during the course. Bangladesh eventually won this match by a huge margin of 220 runs.

The right-hander has featured in three Tests and one ODI for Zimbabwe and has scored 59 runs in the longer format.

ENG vs IND | 3rd Test: Think India will go with three pacers & two spinners, says Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has put his weight behind India spinner R Ashwin and has backed the off-spinner to play the third Test between the two sides beginning on Wednesday (August 25, 2021) in Leeds. Vaughan believes that the weather at the venue will be nice and sunny which might force India to play with three pacers and two spinners. "It looks like it's a very good week, it's going to be very dry, nice and sunny so I'd be amazed if Ashwin doesn't play this week. I think they will go with three pacers and two spinners, and I think that will be the right call at Headingley, it also packs the batting,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz. The Virat Kohli-led India team is leading the five-match series 1-0 after they clinched a comprehensive 151-run win in the second Test at Lord’s. Ashwin missed out on playing this game as well and the right-arm bowler had then revealed in his YouTube show, ‘Kutti Story’ that he wasn’t a part of the final XI because of the occurrence of showers at the last hour before the game. “The funny thing was, before the match, they were like, ‘There’s a heatwave. You please be ready mate. You might play.’ Upon coming to breakfast in the morning, rains started lashing out. I asked, ‘Won’t you tell about heatwave after it came? Why gave me hope only for it to end in disappointment!’,” Ashwin said while interacting with R.Sridhar on the show. The overcast conditions made India play four quick bowlers in that game. The five-match series between India and England is a part of the second cycle of the World Test Championship.

ENG vs IND | James Anderson concedes 'caught off guard' by Jasprit Bumrah's bouncer barrage

England star pacer and number 11 batsman James Anderson, who was at the forefront of India’s fiery pace attack in the Lord’s Test has said that Jasprit Bumrah was not trying to get him out and instead, he was more focused on intimidating him in the first innings. Looking back at that phase of play, Anderson said that he was “caught off guard” having been tipped by his teammates that the surface at Lord’s and it was not bouncing from short of length areas. Joe Root, who was there at the other end of the crease while he was being peppered by short stuff, had told him that Bumrah was not bowling as quickly as he can. He was also surprised at the lack of balls attacking his stumps by Bumrah and said that the over that lasted 10-12 balls due to repetitive no-balls was a moment like he has not “felt like ever” in a 164-match long career. "I got caught off guard a little bit because all the batters coming in were saying how slow the pitch was. Banged in short; it was really slow. When I came out to bat, Joe said Bumrah was not bowling as quick as he normally does. And then, the first ball was 90 miles an hour and on the money, wasn't it? And it felt like, I haven't felt like this ever in my career. I felt he wasn’t trying to get me out," Anderson said. "I felt he wasn't trying to get me out. He bowled an over, maybe 10, 11, 12 balls. He was bowling no-ball after no-ball, bowling short. I think he bowled two on the stumps which I managed to dig out. So for me, it was just about trying to survive that and get Joe back on strike.” Anderson was the last man dismissed by Mohammed Siraj that gave India their first win in the series and the second win at Lord’s since 2014. The third Test of the series is scheduled to start on August 25 at Headingley, Leeds.
