Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar has put his weight behind the Indian captain Virat Kohli and said that the right-handed batsman can’t be written off after failing to score runs in three innings during the on-going tour of England.
"Let's wait and see, but in three innings you do not want to write someone off who has been a modern-day great," Agarkar said at a press conference organised by Sony.
Kohli had a dismal run during the 2014 tour of England where he only managed to score 134 runs in five matches but made a roaring comeback on the next trip to notch up 593 runs.
Mentioning about the same, Agarkar said that he has scored runs in the past and got out on some deliveries in this series.
"Virat Kohli got runs against England in the 2018 series with all their bowlers available. He got a great ball from James Anderson in the first Test, fought hard for his 40 odd in the second Test.”
“You bowl an outswinger to batsmen in the corridor, they will knick the ball. These are conditions where the ball does swing and seam around. Bowling on the fourth stump is very difficult to play for most batsmen," he added.
India presently lead the five-match series 1-0 against England after they won the Lord’s Test by 151 runs. The two sides will now lock horns in the third encounter slated to begin on August 25 in Leeds. The Test series between India and England is a part of the second cycle of the World Test Championship.
