In a significant development, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have roped in experienced West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd ahead of the IPL 2024. Notably, Shepherd's previous franchise, Lucknow Super Giants, traded him to MI for his base price INR 50 Lakhs before the mini auction scheduled next month.

Hailed for his scintillating stroke play and useful bowling, Shepherd has represented West Indies in 31 matches, amassing 301 runs at a blistering strike rate of 153.57. Furthermore, he also has scalped 31 wickets, including a solitary four-fer.

He recently grabbed limelight during the India T20Is on home soil, picking nine wickets in just five matches. His addition will certainly boost MI's squad, considering they lacked quality all-rounders in the previous season.

Talking about the IPL, Shepherd featured in only four matches for the Super Giants in two seasons, 2022 and 2023. Despite bowling in three of them, he could only pick three wickets at a mediocre economy.

Mumbai Indians had a great IPL season earlier this year, finishing as the third best team after Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Before losing to the Titans in Qualifier 2, the Rohit Sharma-led side managed eight wins in 14 group-stage matches.

On the other hand, the Super Giants finished third in the points table and will be looking to made some amendments to their squad when they enter the mini auction next month.
