In a pleasant surprise for Indian cricket fans, former Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma was spotted at The Oval stadium in London. He was there to watch the ongoing fifth Test match between India and England.

Rohit Sharma Attends England vs India Fifth Test

A video shared by ANI from London shows Rohit wearing a blue jacket, white t-shirt, sunglasses, and a white cap. Fans were excited and surprised to see him, especially since it’s been about two months since he stepped away from the Test team.

Rohit Sharma officially retired from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, just before the England tour. He made the announcement on Instagram, writing:

“Hello everyone, I would like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket.”

His decision to retire followed a poor performance in the earlier five-Test series against Australia, where he managed to score just 31 runs across three matches. In the final Test of that series, Rohit chose to step out of the playing XI due to his dip in form, and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took over as captain in his absence.

Rohit, now 38 years old, became India’s Test captain in 2022 and led the team to the World Test Championship Final in 2023 against Australia. He played 61 Test matches, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57.

Notably, Rohit Sharma has retired from T20 Internationals after winning the T20 World Cup in June 2024. However, he has not retired from One Day Internationals (ODIs). His last appearance in international cricket was in the 2025 Champions Trophy final.

India Continue To Frustrate England

Coming to the match, India began Day 3 of their second innings with a lead of 52 runs. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal resumed his innings on 51 not out, while nightwatchman Akash Deep continued on 4.

As of the first drinks break, India are 127/2 after 32 overs, leading England by 104 runs. The partnership between Jaiswal and Akash has been solid and frustrating for the English bowlers. Akash was dropped on 21 by Zak Crawley and has looked steady since then. Jaiswal, on the other end, is batting confidently, and England are still searching for a breakthrough.
