The Kariavattom Greenfield Stadium has received a major revamp in lieu of the upcoming second edition of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 season. New LED floodlights have been installed at the venue, replacing the outdated metal halide system to ensure brighter illumination, improved energy efficiency, and an enhanced viewing experience for players and spectators alike.
There will be an official inauguration ceremony for the same, set to be held on Friday, August 15. The occasion will be graced by several beloved Kerala cricketers, including Team India star and explosive T20I opener Sanju Samson.
Sanju Samson To Play Friendly Match On Light Inauguration
Nearly 400 professional 1600-watt LED lights have been installed across four towers of the Kariavattom Greenfield Stadium in Kerala. As reported by ANI, the lighting project orchestrated by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) costed roughly Rs. 18 crores.
The KCA will be organizing an inaugural function to commemorate the occasion on August 15, which also coincides with India’s Independence Day celebration. While the event will feature a laser show and will be attended by several KCA officials and KCL team owners, star cricketers like Sanju Samson, Vishnu Vinod, Salman Nizar and Sachin Baby among others will also be gracing the stadium.
Moreover, a friendly cricket match will be played during the event between KCA President’s XI and Secretary’s XI. Entry to the stadium will be free for fans, and the spectators can enter the venue via Gates 5 and 15 through the University Campus Main Entrance.
The inaugural function and the friendly cricket match will also serve as a prelude to the Kerala Cricket League 2025 season, which is set to launch from Thursday, August 21 onwards next week. The first match of the tournament will be played between Aries Kollam Sailors and Calicut Globstars.
All 33 matches of the season, including the playoffs and the final will be hosted by the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
