With a pull towards the midwicket boundary off Pat Cummins on the final day of the Gabba Test, Rishabh Pant completed 1000 runs in his Test career. He is the fastest among Indian wicketkeepers to reach the 1000-run mark in Test cricket.
He has reached the landmark on the back of two hundreds that came on the tours of England and Australia and three half-centuries. He also has the highest average of 40.04 among the Indian wicketkeepers in Test cricket.
He has always been rated very highly for his explosive batting and it is more his batting than the wicketkeeping skills that keep him in the playing XI, especially on the overseas tours as India explore options of runs from the order batsmen.
In the ongoing series against Australia, he was brought back in the playing XI after the batting debacle in Adelaide in the first Test, and he almost took India to an improbable win in the last Test at the SCG.
