The 52nd IPL 2025 match witnessed a controversial moment as CSK's premier batter Dewald Brevis was adjudged leg before wicket in the high-octane clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The dismissal played a massive role from the game's context, as RCB eventually secured a thrilling two-run victory.

CSK Fans Accuse RCB Of Cheating On Social Media

The incident unfolded during the 17th over of CSK's innings when Brevis had just joined the well-set Ravindra Jadeja to steady the ship following Ayush Mhatre's departure. RCB's experienced pacer Lungi Ngidi bowled a juicy full toss that struck Brevis on his pads.

Although it seemed not out in real time, the umpire thought otherwise, raising his finger and asking Brevis to leave the middle. However, to the misfortune of CSK, the DRS clock wasn't displayed and Brevis had to walk back to the dugout despite demanding for a review.

The incident didn't go well with CSK's passionate fanbase, as they accused RCB of foul play.

Here are some of the reactions on the controversial incident:

"Star Sports now showing the DRS timer in their post-match show—what a joke. RCB literally got gifted this match. Shameless stuff all around."

"Star Sports is now showing the DRS timer in their post match show. They are so shameless. This match was literally fixed by RCB."

"World's Richest & Biggest Cricket league timer didn't work during DRS. Umpire didn't even care to inform Batsman. That too in Bangalore ground favouring RCB. Just Give them a trophy already if they are going to play with cheating. And RCB audacity to call Other Fixer"

"RCB triumph by cheating?"

DRS Timer: What Does The Rule Say?

Although it's fair to say that the CSK batters should've been made aware of the time through the 15-second timer, a batter must opt for the DRS within 15 seconds of the umpire's signal.

However, Brevis and Jadeja spent ten additional seconds before going upstairs. They didn't probably realise that the umpire had declared Brevis out. So, technically, Brevis was the victim of his own unawareness and RCB had nothing to do with it.
