Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best in the world: Deepak Chahar

Chennai Super Kings Deepak Chahar rattled Punjab Kings top-order during the IPL 2021 match in Mumbai on Friday. Chahar returned with figures of 4/13 in his 4 overs which included the dismissals of Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Deepak Hooda and Nicholas Pooran. 

While Chahar was brilliant with the ball, Ravindra Jadeja once again showed his class in the field first with a direct hit to send KL Rahul packing and then a diving catch to wrap up Gayle’s innings off Chahar in the covers. 

Chahar lavished praise on Jadeja for his fielding efforts and explained how important he is to the unit. “First over, when the catch went to Ruturaj, it was a quick one, only Jaddu could've taken that so I was like he should've been there. He's one of the best in the world, has taken so many catches off my bowling. I want 11 Jaddus on the field. I am always the one who starts the tone for the match,” Chahar said. 

Talking about his own role, Chahar insisted that he generally begin the proceedings and if he fetches a wicket early or bowls a maiden over, it sets the tone for the side further. 

“I am always the one who starts the tone for the match. If I take a wicket or bowl a maiden over then obviously we can take the momentum. It's a big responsibility I've been having since the last four years and Mahi bhai has shown faith in me. Hopefully I can deliver in some more matches. As a bowler my plan is to bowl dots if I don't take wickets. The bowlers from the other end will also be able to take wickets," said the bowler. 

CSK had a disappointing start to the tournament but made a fine comeback in the clash against the KL Rahul-led side to win the match by 6 wickets. CSK first restricted Punjab to 106/8 in 20 overs and then chased down the target in the 16th over. 

CSK will face Rajasthan Royals on Monday in Mumbai.

While Punjab Kings had one of the dismal runs in the encounter against Chennai Super Kings on Friday in Mumbai, the team found a new, strong power-hitter in Shahrukh Khan who struck majority of the runs for the side while they were rattled by the CSK bowling attack. I am a good batsman, I was batting up the order for Tamil Nadu for a couple of years. So, I’ve been batting at the top order,” he added. CSK bowlers especially Deepak Chahar ripped apart the Punjab Kings batting line up after he bagged a four-wicket haul at the cost of just 13 runs in 4 overs. Some brilliant bowling and fielding efforts in the middle from CSK denied the KL Rahul-led side to take the upper-hand at any given stage of the match. Later, Chennai lost an early wicket in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad but Fat du Plessis and Moeen Ali dominated the Punjab bowlers thoroughly as the two put up a partnership of 66 runs for the second wicket as Chennai eventually won by 6 wickets. Punjab Kings will now play Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on Sunday while CSK will face Rajasthan Royals on Monday at the same venue.

BCCI approves participation in Olympics, Commonwealth Games

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given conditional approval to field it’s men’s and women’s team in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. The BCCI in it’s Apex Council meeting that was held on Friday virtually has decided that it will allow the participation of men’s and women’s team in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 if the board’s autonomy is not affected. "We do not want to be bossed over by the IOA, that is the bottom line. We will seek clarity on the roles. The participation is subject to the BCCI's identity and independence not being compromised," a BCCI source told Cricbuzz. The board has given a go-ahead for the participation of the men’s and women’s team in 2028 Olympics and the Commonwealth Games next year but it would still have a discussion with other associations whose autonomy was preserved despite being an Olympic sport. Some other discussions also took place during the Apex Council meeting. One of them was giving the permission of conducting T20 leagues by the state associations. Mumbai, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Saurashtra associations have the permission to organise T20 leagues at state level. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had conducted their leagues earlier after getting the permission which was taken back by the board after allegation of corruption in these leagues. "As long as they are not around the IPL and all anti-corruption and BCCI norms are followed, they can conduct the leagues," the source said.
