The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared the air on the visa issue of Pakistan cricket team for the World T20 which will be held in India later this year.
The board has said that visas will be issued for the players. However, whether the fans could travel to India or not would be decided later on.
"The visa issue of the Pakistan cricket team has been sorted. However, whether the fans can travel across the border to watch matches is still not clear," an Apex Council member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
"It will be decided in due course of time. However we had promised ICC that it will be sorted. The secretary announced during the meeting."
There had been a lot of confusion regarding the visa issue and the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani had earlier asked for a written assurance from the BCCI.
“We are not seeking written assurance for the visas of the national team only, but for the fans, officials and journalists as well,” Mani said earlier.
Amid the political tensions, the two sides haven’t played against each other in a bilateral tie since 2012-13 but have been facing each other in the ICC events.
They last played in the World Cup 2019 where the Virat Kohl-led team thumped Sarfaraz Ahmed’s team pretty convincingly. India reached the semi-final of the tournament before bowing out after suffering a defeat against New Zealand.
