Ranji Trophy 2022 | Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan named the ‘Player of the Tournament’

With the conclusion of an intriguing and intensifying 2022 Ranji Trophy edition, team Madhya Pradesh has created history by clinching their first Ranji Trophy title. On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh defeated Mumbai by six wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru and etched their name in history books.


Despite being on the losing side, Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan has been named the Player of the Tournament, thanks to his impeccable performance with the bat. 


In just six games, Sarfaraz Khan has made 982 runs, with a wholesome average of 122.75. With two half-centuries and four centuries, with the best individual score of 275, he has topped the table of the batting charts. 


From the batting charts, the second position got sealed by Madhya Pradesh's in-form batter, Rajat Patidar. He has scored 658 runs in six games, with a commendable average of 82.25. With five half-centuries and two centuries, he has the individual best score of 142. From the same list, other top batters are Dinesh Bisht of Nagaland (623 runs), Yash Dubey of MP (614 runs) and Shubham Sharma of Rajasthan (608 runs).


Coming to the bowling charts, Mumbai's Shams Mulani has topped the list by scalping an impressive 45 wickets in six games. With the best figure of 7/114, he has an average and economy of 21.00 and 2.27, respectively.  


MP's spinner, Kumar Karthikeya, seals the second spot on the bowling charts. He has taken 32 wickets in just six games at an average of 21.00 and an economy rate of 2.27. His best bowling figures in the tournament are 6/50. The list of top-performing bowlers of this Ranji edition includes Shahbaz Nadeem of Jharkhand (25 wickets), medium pacer Gaurav Yadav of MP (23 wickets) and spinner Satyajeet Sunil Bachhav of Maharashtra (21 wickets).


Coming to the final clash of the 2022 Ranji Trophy, winning the toss, Mumbai has batted first and have scored 374/10 on board. The top scores came from Yashasvi Jaiswal (78 runs) and Prithvi Shaw (47 runs). Meanwhile, MP's pacer duo, Gaurav Yadav and Anubhav Agarwal, shined with their pace by scalping 4/106 and 3/81, respectively. 


In the first innings of Madhya Pradesh, they produced some swashbuckling innings by Yash Dubey (133 runs), Shubham Sharma (116 runs) and Rajat Patidar (122 runs), taking them to a gigantic score of 536/10 and a 162-run lead. 


During the second innings of Mumbai, the team was kind-off feeble with the bat and scored 269/10, with the high scores of Suved Parkar (51 runs) and Sarfaraz Khan (45 runs). And the brilliant spell of Kumar Karthikeya (4/98) was handy for MP to restrict the opposition to a lower score. 


On the final day, with Mumbai producing a mere 107-run lead, MP effortlessly crossed the target of 108 and achieved their first-ever Ranji Trophy title.
