County Championship 2022 | Division Two Round-up

Division Two of the ongoing 2022 County Championship resumed with three matches on Sunday, June 26. Here is a look at the highlights from each of the three games at the end of the opening day of action.


Nottinghamshire vs Middlesex


The two best sides of Division Two clashed on the opening day of their five-day affair at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge. Table-toppers and hosts Nottinghamshire won the toss and opted to bat first. They reached 378-4 before stumps on Day 1, with opening batsman Haseeb Hameed flooring his opponents with 101 runs of the highest order.


Unbeaten batters Lyndon James (90*) and Steven Mullaney (79*) are both nearing their respective centuries and will resume action tomorrow.

Sussex vs Derbyshire


Winless Sussex continued their season-long struggle as evidenced by their opening day report card against Derbyshire. Fuelled by Wayne Madsen’s unbeaten 171, Billy Godleman’s Derbyshire reached 339-5 before stumps.


Among Sussex bowlers, Sean Hunt picked up 2-43 in his 15 overs, while Steven Finn, captain Tom Haines and Delray Rawlins all claimed a wicket each.

Worcestershire vs Glamorgan


Worcestershire, at their home ground, were bowled out for 271 on the opening day against Glamorgan. Among the hosts’ batters, Ed Barnard scored 131, with the next highest score of the innings being 46 by Gareth Roderick.


Glamorgan failed to survive the remaining nine overs of the day as they lost three wickets for just 32 on the board. They lost captain and opening batter David Lloyd in the first over of the innings for just 4. 


Worcestershire’s Joe Leach accounted for the visitors' three wickets to fall.
