The highly-awaited IPL 2025 match between RCB and Punjab Kings might well be called off due to rains at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The latest weather updates promise ominous signs for fans of both teams, as the two high-flying units were desperately seeking to add two more points to their tally this IPL 2025 season.
Notably, the rain-soddened affair of Friday, April 18 re-ignited memories of another IPL cracker among fans in India. The match in question, is none other than the blockbuster IPL 2023 final played between then defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
When an IPL match lasted longer than a Test
The IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and CSK was originally scheduled to be played on May 28 that year. However, ceaseless rains at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium prompted the IPL organizers to postpone the match by a day at the same venue.
While the proceedings began on May 29 in Ahmedabad instead, the match was once again reduced to 15 overs for the second innings due to continuous rains. The match exceeded well past the midnight, spilling over to May 30, virtually making it a three-day affair.
While CSK won the match to lift the IPL 2023 title in a last-ball thriller, the match is also remembered for its unusual duration.
Notably, some fans were quick to point out that the same Narendra Modi Stadium hosted a two-day Test match between India and England just a couple of years prior to the Titans vs CSK final.
Nonetheless, it remains to be seen if Punjab Kings’ away fixture against the RCB will resume at any time soon.
