Rahmanullah Gurbaz Punished! Here Are All Details Of What Exactly Went Wrong

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is arguably the best batter in Afghanistan team currently and has time and again, displayed his magic with some belligerent hitting at the top of the order. In the World Cup 2023 game against England, we saw the best of Gurbaz as he smashed 80 off just 57 balls.

However, just when he had things in control and looked set for a big total, a miscommunication in the 19th over led to his shocking run-out leaving Gurbaz absolutely fumed. The visibly disturbed Gurbaz on his way back to the pavilion slammed his bat on the boundary rope and chair, evoking a breach of level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

He was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to ''abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match."

It was the first offence for Gurbaz in the last 24-month period and one demerit point has been added to the swashbuckling opener's disciplinary record by the match referee Jeff Crowe.

What are the penalties for level 1 breach?

The minimum penalty for a level 1 breach is an official reprimand while the maximum penalty is the cut of 50 percent of player's match fee and one or two demerit points. When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned.
