PSL 2022: Will Smeed misses out on ton but Quetta Gladiators put 190/4 vs Peshawar Zalmi

Quetta Gladiators' Will Smeed fell short of a century by just three runs after he was dismissed for 97 off 62 against Peshawar Zalmi. Smeed's knock included four maximums and 11 fours during the course.

After being put in to bat by Peshawar, the Gladiators began the proceedings in a brilliant manner as openers Smeed and Ahsan Ali put up a partnership of 155 runs for the first wicket.

Ali was eventually undone by Usman Qadir for a 46-ball 73 after being caught in the deep by Sherfane Rutherford. The Quetta side then capitalised on this and pulled the scoring rate a bit.

While Smeed lost a couple of more partners around, he himself continued to score runs at a brisk pace and helped the side put 190/4 in 20 overs on the board.

Usman Qadir was the pick of the bowlers for his team after he returned with figures of 2/20 in 4 overs.

PSL 2022 | Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi: Gladiators off to flying start

Quetta Gladiators were off to a flying start against Peshawar Zalmi after being put into bat in Karachi in the PSL 2022 fixture on Friday. Ahsan Ali and Will Smeed who opened the batting for the Gladiators had put up a stand of more than 125 runs and both the batsmen notched up individual fifties during the course. The PSL suffered a blow earlier after some big names in the competition had tested positive for Covid-19. One of these cricketers was all-rounder Shahid Afridi who tested positive and will miss the first four matches of Quetta Gladiators. The Peshawar team on the other side is also without the services of Wahab Riaz and Haider Ali who tested positive.

Brendan Taylor banned for three & half years by ICC

Former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor has been slapped with a three and a half years ban from all forms of cricket, the ICC said in a statement. Taylor has been found guilty of breaching four charges of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and, separately, one charge of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. Article 2.4.2 – Failing to disclose (without unnecessary delay) the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that (a) the participant knew or should have known was given to them to procure a breach of the Code or (b) that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute. Article 2.4.3 - Failing to disclose to the ACU (without unnecessary delay) receipt of gifts/hospitality with a value of US$750 or more regardless of the circumstances in which they were given. Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the ACU (without unnecessary delay) full details of the approach received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code including in relation to Zimbabwe’s then upcoming series against Sri Lanka and/or Bangladesh. Article 2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an ACU investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and / or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. BBL 2021-22 Final: Who said what on Twitter after Scorchers add another trophy to cabinet

Perth Scorchers were on Friday crowned champions of the BBL 2021-22 after beating Sydney Sixers in the final in Melbourne. Defending a target of 172 runs in 20 over, the Scorchers bundled out Sydney Sixers for 92 runs in the 17th over. The Sixers started off the proceedings in a dismal manner after they lost an early wicket and couldn't really get back on track as they lost wickets at regular intervals to eventually get bowled out. Earlier, the Scorchers too had a disappointing start to the innings as the were left tottering at 25/4 but 104-run stand between Turner and Laurie Evans certainly turned fortunes for them. Both the players scored inidvidual fifties while Evans remained unbeaten at 76 off 41 during the course as Scorchers put 171/6 in 20 overs on the board.
