U19 World Cup 2022: Canada's tournament comes to end due to Covid-19 cases

The Plate Playoff semi-final match of the U19 World Cup between Canada and Scotland was canceled. The Canadian side would not be able to field an XI for Plate Group matches as nine of the 15 members in the squad tested positive for Covid-19. The International Cricket Council (ICC) hasn't revealed the names of the players but they are in isolation in Trinidad. "It's very unfortunate that these young men have to go through this kind of a challenge in their young career. We are focused on getting these players back home safely and quickly," CC president Rashpal Bajwa told Cricbuzz. "It's a very unfortunate incident that most of our players tested positive but that's the world we are living in with this pandemic." "We have been in direct contact with the team manager, and have been fully assured that the affected players are all asymptomatic. They are all now isolating at the hotel in full compliance with the ICC's established protocols. They will receive full support from the event medical team under the guidance of the ICC's Bio-Safety Advisory Group," a statement from the CC said. Australia have marched ahead in the semi-final of the U19 World Cup after beating Pakistan in the quarter-final in Antigua. But their departure in quick succession pushed the Pakistan team on the back foot and the Asian side didn't really find a way back. They were eventually bundled out for 157 after Mehran Mumtaz chipped in with a quick-fire 29 off 19. Pakistan lost by 119 runs. William Salzmann picked up three wickets for 37 runs in 8.1 overs. Australia will now meet either India or Bangladesh in the semis.
