Prithvi Shaw alongside rest of Mumbai Ranji squad to attend MCA President's function

Irrespective of the Madhya Pradesh Team getting to lay their hands on their maiden Ranji Trophy campaign, the mood in Mumbai’s camp has not been too bad. It was the first time the Mumbai Ranji Team featured in a final since 2017.

Mumbai has always been a formidable side in domestic competitions, but their performances have been somewhat dicey lately. In such a situation, reaching the finals of the Ranji Trophy with a relatively younger squad and seizing records along the way is no mean feat.

Mumbai Cricket Association’s President, Mr Vijay Patil, has organized a Dinner Party for the Mumbai Contingent to recognize and celebrate their performances this season. The Dinner Party will be hosted at a five-star hotel in Bandra. It will be attended by the squad representing Mumbai in the current Ranji Trophy, the team management, support staff, and MCA stakeholders. Former Mumbai Stalwarts are also expected to mark their presence.

Prolific Opener and Former U-19 Captain Prithvi Shaw captained the side in Ranji Trophy Campaign this year. Along the way, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s resurgence was one of the positives after a mixed run with the bat in the IPL. Yashasvi was initially dropped from the side due to inconsistent performances and lack of form.

Sarfaraz Khan notching up monstrous scores at every stage was indeed a sight to watch for cricket enthusiasts. On the other hand, Suved Parkar, who made his debut in the Quarter Finals against Uttarakhand, scored 252 runs in his first innings.

Shams Mulani picked up 45 scalps from six games and was Mumbai’s highest wicket-taker. Mulani’s trickery with the left-arm spin was too hot to handle for most batters in the tournament. Moreover, this was Amol Muzumdar’s first Ranji Trophy season as Mumbai Coach, and apart from the final loss, the Mumbai Ranji Team have a lot to be happy about.

Mumbai have a young squad and to achieve this in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dubey, and Shardul Thakur is genuinely remarkable. Prithvi Shaw and co were slated to arrive in the city on Monday Evening from Bengaluru, where the finals took place.
