It's great to see him showing the rest of the world how good he is: Joe Root

England's experienced batter Joe Root has termed Jonny Bairstow as a phenomenal player after another blistering performance for the team, which helped the team seal the series whitewash at home against New Zealand.

In the first innings of the final Test, Bairstow emerged as the top run-scorer for the England team with the contribution of 162 off 157. He followed it up with an unbeaten knock of 71 off 44 balls in the second one, which paved the way for the team to chase down the target of 296 at a rate of 5.46.

The 32-year-old was adjudged Player of the match for his sensational innings of 136 off 92 balls in the second Test.

Root thinks Bairstow's innings was in line with the 50-Overs format and hailed the ball-striking abilities of the wicket-keeper batter. The former England captain added that Bairstow has been a phenomenal player and hoped he could continue his form in the upcoming series.

"It was like some of the 50-overs stuff we normally play; he (Bairstow) is hitting the ball so well. I'm sure everyone was enjoying it. He's a phenomenal player and has been for a long time. It's great to see him showing the rest of the world how good he is. Hopefully, he can keep moving forward on that trajectory," said Root after the final Test.

In the end, Root reckoned that all the players kept gaining confidence as the 3-match red-ball series progressed.

"You try and play what's in front of you; that's the most important thing. One of the great things about this series was the guys kept getting more and more confident. It's such fun to play and to be part of that. We all love playing; it's great. It's important that we enjoy this series win," he concluded.

The Ben Stokes-led team will face the challenge of the Indian team from July 1 at Birmingham for a series decider of the Test series played last year. With a dominating win against the Kiwi team.

England will undoubtedly hold the advantage ahead of the fixture and have good chances of making the series equation 2-2.
