West Indies is set to tour Pakistan for a short ODI series starting on 8th June. However, lots of rumours and reports were surfing that the series might get postponed due to Pakistan's political and economic turmoil. Meanwhile, The Pakistan Cricket Board has put these speculations to rest.
Reacting to the news, PCB has clarified that they have not received any proposal to postpone the series, and the tour will go ahead as planned. However, PCB director - Media Sami-ul-Hasan Burney stated that due to the political turmoil, numerous logistical issues need to be sorted out before the start of the series.
He further said that "Holding an event in Pakistan would not be possible without the support of the local administration,"
The 3 match ODI series, scheduled from 8th June to 12th June, will be held at the Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi. However, the Multan stadium is also kept as a reserve if the base needs to be shifted as PCB hasn't received green signals for the venue and training camps from the federal government.
The camp for the Pakistani players is supposed to be held from 1st June, and the Windies will be arriving on 5th June. However, the PCB is hoping for early guidelines and instructions from the government as logistics such as the hotels are also uncertain.
Pakistan has been going through economic and political turmoil since the dismissal of former PM Imran Khan. Their situation is at a level where even the essential goods are hard to find. Earlier Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez tweeted about the same.
He said "No Petrol available in any petrol station in Lahore??? No cash available in ATM machines?? Why a common man have to suffer from political decisions."
Looking at his tweets and the condition of Pakistan, it is clear why the postponement of the series was speculated; however, as of now, PCB is sure that the series will proceed as per the schedule.
The series is of utmost importance for both countries as it is a part of the 2023 World Cup Super League. The top 7 teams, excluding the host, qualify directly for the World Cup, whereas Pakistan and West Indies are at 9th and 10th position, respectively.
