Pakistan Super League 2023: Categories of 8 players upgraded

The categories of eight players were upgraded in the Pakistan Super League 2023 after the local player categories were renewed. Furthermore, the registration window for foreign players was also opened by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday (October 25). 

The list of players has been shared with all six franchises for the tournament to be played between February 9 to March 19, 2023.

Seven players of the Pakistan T20 World Cup squad comprise this coveted list after they returned with impressive performances in the PSL. Apart from them, youngster Aamer Jamal's contract has been upgraded as well, after he successfully defended 15 runs off the last over in his T20I debut against England earlier this year. 


PSL Players' categories upgraded

Mohammad Wasim Jr (Islamabad United)- Gold to Diamond 

Shahnawaz Dahani and Shan Masood (Multan Sultans)- Gold to Diamond

Haider Ali (Peshawar Zalmi)- Diamond to Platinum

Mohammad Haris (Peshawar Zalmi)- Silver to Gold

Mohammad Nawaz (Quetta Gladiators)- Diamond to Platinum

Naseem Shah (Quetta Gladiators)- Gold to Diamond


PSL Players' categories downgraded

A total of five players witnessed their categories getting downgraded as well. 

Hasan Ali -Platinum to Diamond, Faheem Ashraf -Diamond to Gold (both Islamabad United)

Sohaib Maqsood (Multan Sultans, Diamond to Gold)

Wahab Riaz (Peshawar Zalmi, Platinum to Diamond)

Sarfaraz Ahmed (Quetta Gladiators, Platinum to Gold)

Now, the teams will float their relegation requests before the final retentions. All franchises will be provided an opportunity to meet players category. If any of the player fail to match their category, he will be relegated below his base category.
