The Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies fell short of Pakistan's 269-9 at Multan by 53 runs. The defeat in the third ODI meant that the visitors ended their Pakistan tour without a win, succumbing to a 0-3 loss in the three-match ODI series.
Captain Pooran made a surprising contribution with the ball in the last of the three games. He collected four wickets in a 10-over spell to chart his best bowling figures across competitive cricket.
However, the left-handed batter compiled only 57 runs across the three innings. Moreover, in the preceding three ODIs in the Netherlands, he contributed just 24 runs for his side.
After the final match, the 26-year-old interacted with the CWI Media at Multan. During the presentation, the West Indies captain spoke about his team's recent performances and hoped for a quick turnaround.
Pooran also talked about his poor form with the bat and said that a string of good scores could ease the burden on opening batter Shai Hope.
The young Trinidadian said, "For the last couple of years, he [Hope] has been the leader of our batting, and he has been doing fantastic, but we definitely need to buff up on ourselves, myself especially"
"In the last 10-12 innings, I haven't scored [substantially] in ODI cricket, and I'm very disappointed with myself as well. Looking forward to start scoring runs in ODI cricket, and hopefully, that changes as well,"
"If I can start doing what I'm accustomed [to] doing in [the] middle overs for West Indies, hopefully, the other guys can continue stringing partnerships, and that could be the start of something special for us as a team,"
West Indies will now host Bangladesh in a month-long tour, which will feature two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The tour will commence with the first of the two Test matches, scheduled to be played at Antigua between June 16 and 20.
