Joe Root’s outrageous six gets compared with Rishabh Pant

Joe Root hammered his 27th Test ton, second in succession, against New Zealand on Day 3 of the ongoing second Test match at Trent Bridge. The former England captain finished the day at 163*, looking all set to add another Test double ton to his profile.

The pristine batting conditions at the venue on Day 4 further solidified Root's chances of a double hundred. Moreover, just a few minutes into the day, the cricketer did a little manoeuvring at the crease and reverse-scooped a charging Tim Southee outside off to hit a six behind the wicket.

Pakistan has moved onto the fourth spot in the latest ICC ODI Rankings released on Monday (June 13). Babar Azam and Co. have leapt over their arch-rivals, India, to reach the top four in the rankings. This climb comes after their 3-nil whitewash over West Indies. Prior to the series, the hosts were placed fifth with a rating of 102. After the thumping series win against the inexperienced West Indian side, they have moved ahead of India, with a total rating of 106. Further, Pakistan has claimed back-to-back ODI series wins, as they also defeated Australia by a score-line of 2-1 a couple of months back. As for the ‘Men in Blue’ have not been involved in ODI action ever since their 3-0 defeat at the hands of South Africa earlier this year. The ‘Men in Green’ have been on the rise in ODI cricket after an underwhelming performance in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. Their biggest achievement came last year when they defeated South Africa in a three-match ODI series in their own backyard. Captain Babar has led from the front, registering three centuries in the last six innings at home. Opening batter, Imam-ul-Haq has also played a big role in his side’s success, as he was awarded the player of the series award against West Indies. Pakistan’s next assignment comes after two months when they face the Netherlands for a three-match ODI series. As for India will look to collect a couple of rating points when they face West Indies and England for their respective three-match ODI series.
