PAK vs WI | Babar Azam adds yet another milestone to his kitty

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam added another feather to his cap on Friday as he became the first batter in the history of the game to rack up nine consecutive 50+ scores in international cricket across formats during his knock of 77 against the West Indies in the 2nd ODI in Multan.

Babar's streak started way back in March when he scored a match-saving 196 in the 2nd Test against Australia. He followed that up with scores of 66 and 55 in the third and final Test, even though the home side lost the decider and the series 0-1.

The 27-year-old continued his rich vein of form during the white-ball leg as he smashed two 100s in three innings to help Pakistan clinch the ODI rubber against a second-string Australian team.

He capped off the Australian series with another 50+ score in a one-off T20I even as Pakistan went down to the Aaron Finch-led unit.

Following a two-month break, Babar picked off from where he had left against Australia as he creamed his 17th ODI hundred in the 1st game of the three-match series against the West Indies.

And by doing so, he leapfrogged the legendary Virat Kohli to become the fastest to rack up 1000 ODI runs as captain. While Virat took 17 innings to achieve the coveted feat, Azam claimed it in his 13th innings. He also became the first batsman to score three consecutive hundreds in ODIs on two separate occasions.

Coming back to the 2nd ODI against the Men in Maroon, Pakistan rode on a brilliant 72-ball 72 from Imam-ul-Haq and a 93-ball 77 from skipper Azam to post 275/8 in 50 overs.

In response, the West Indies could not get anywhere close to the target thanks to the duo of left-arm orthodox Mohammad Nawaz (4/19 in ten overs) and pacer Mohammad Wasim Jnr (3/34 in 4.2 overs) and were eventually bowled out for 155 in the 33rd over.

Pakistan have not only wrapped up the series 2-0 but have also claimed valuable 20 ICC ODI Super League points, and they'd look to make it 30 when they face the tourists in the final match on June 12.
