#OTD in 2019 | Jason Roy forces Pakistan into submission with a whirlwind hundred

England's white-ball revolution has been one of the most talked-about things in the past 5-6 years.

From the chaos of the 2015 World Cup, where it looked as if England were riding a tuk-tuk and the entire world was riding a Ferrari. That all changed after the 2015 World Cup debacle when the leadership duo of skipper Eoin Morgan, director of cricket Andrew Strauss and head coach Trevor Bayliss decided that 'enough was enough'.

The shackles of sedate cricket were smashed and what followed next was a bunch of white-ball mercenaries like Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, Jos Buttler, and co unleash a brutal assault on bowlers around the world.

The most prudent example of England's whirlwind revolution as a white-ball team was on full show during the five-match ODI series against Pakistan prior to the 2019 World Cup.

In that series, England smashed in excess of 340 in each of the four games that were played, including a couple of successful run-chases of 359 and 341, respectively.

Jason Roy was at the heart of the run-chase in Nottingham on this day back in 2019.

The right-handed opening batsman smashed the Pakistani bowling attack to all corners of the picturesque Trent Bridge to guide England to a comfortable three-wicket win.

Chasing 341, England again got off to a blazing start as Roy and James Vince (43 off 39 deliveries) added 94 for the first wicket in just under 14 overs.

While Mohammad Hasnain dismissed Vince, it didn't deter Roy and Joe Root a bit as the duo went on to hammer another 107 runs in the next 14 overs.

Roy brought up his hundred with a disdainful lofted drive off Mohammad Hafeez, which went for a six.

The right-hander hammered 11 fours and 4 sixes in his 89-ball 114 before getting dismissed by Mohammad Hasnain.

England suffered a bit of a stutter following Roy's dismissal as they went from being 1-201 to 5-216 within a blink of an eye.

However, Ben Stokes' unbeaten 64-ball 71 and handy contributions from Tom Curran, Joe Denly and Adil Rashid ensured that the 'Three Lions' romped home in the last over with three wickets still in their kitty.

Pakistan went on to lose the next ODI as well when they failed to chase down 352, eventually getting dismissed for 297 and handing a 4-0 win to the hosts.

Pakistan avenged that defeat in the World Cup, but it was England who had the last laugh as they went on to clinch their maiden World Cup title at Lord's a month later.
