IPL2022 | 'I am sure there will be big things to come': Riley Meredith

This season, Mumbai Indians have had an extremely dismal IPL campaign as the five-time champions have managed to win just three out of their twelve league matches. This sort of underwhelming return resulted in the ouster of the Rohit Sharma-led side from the playoffs race.

However, the Mumbai Indians fast bowler Riley Meredith believes that the team could have done much better this season. In a video shared by MI's Twitter handle, Meredith said that MI missed the opportunity of having a terrific tournament considering the kind of talented players they have in their squad. The tearaway quick from Australia also stressed that they took a lot of time to get the winning momentum which cost them their qualifier berth in the marquee event.

"It was probably a bit of an opportunity (we) missed to have a good tournament because the skill level was there and the competition is there from us but a bit late finding it," Meredith said in the video.

Meredith confidently said that Mumbai Indians have a solid core group, and therefore, it is assured that they will bounce back in style in the next season.

"But it's really exciting going into next season and, as I said, it's a really good group. So, I'm sure there will be big things to come," the 25-year-old concluded.

Meredith finally got a chance to represent MI after some frequent expensive returns from Tymal Mills in the initial games. The fiery fast bowler from Hobart, who had an ordinary IPL last year, has been impressive this season as he has picked seven wickets from six games at a good strike rate of 18.86. Also, he seems to be accurate in his views as MI lost many close encounters in the first half. However, because they have young talents in Tilak Varma, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, etc., we can expect a strong comeback from the most successful franchise in IPL history.
