Only Virat Kohli can do that: Sourav Ganguly backs Indian batter to end lean patch

Virat Kohli is probably in the toughest phase of his life as a player. The Indian batter who used to score centuries for fun has gone without registering a single ton since November 2019.

Moreover, his performances off-late have been far from convincing, which has raised doubts over his future in the T20I side.

However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has come out in defence of the star Indian batter. He believes that Virat Kohli realises he is going through a lean patch, but he is a player of immense skill and ability.

“Yeah, look at the numbers he has got in international cricket. That does not happen without ability and quality. Yes, he has had a tough time, and he knows that,” said Ganguly.

Virat Kohli had an underwhelming T20I series against England, scoring just 12 runs in two matches. The former Indian captain suffered a groin injury, which ruled him out of the first ODI against England. His participation in the second ODI at Lord’s also remains uncertain.

Sourav Ganguly backs Virat Kohli to find his form and believes that only a player like the 33-year-old batter can pull himself out of the hole.

The BCCI President praised Kohli and stated that he has batted at the peak of his powers for over a decade in International Cricket.

“But he has been a great player himself, so he knows himself by his own standards. It is not been good, and I see him coming back and doing well. He is going to find a way that makes him successful as he has been in the last 12-13 years or maybe even more, and only Virat Kohli can do that,” Ganguly added.

Virat Kohli has been rested for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against West Indies. The Indian batter is expected to return for the 2022 Asia Cup, which will commence in the last week of August.
