England seamer Ollie Robinson has revealed how Ben Stokes' advice helped him to embrace life as a “gym freak” which brought his England career back on track.

Robinson earned a national call-up for the ongoing three-match Test series against the visiting South African team. After missing out on selection in the first Test, England decided to recall Robinson to the playing XI for the second Test in Manchester.

Back spasms, COVID-19, and dental problems made it impossible for the 28-year-old pacer to come back in the side post the Ashes debacle.

I've become a bit of a gym freak: Robinson

On his return to the international scene, Robinson caught eye-balls and when asked about what has changed for him after playing his last Test in Australia, Robinson said that the gym habit has helped him to rediscover his rhythm with the ball again.

"I've become a bit of a gym freak, which I never thought I'd say. It's become a bit of a habit whereas before it was a chore and I think that's really helped me. It's just ingrained in me now which hopefully will help for years to come," said Ollie Robinson.

Robinson also opened up on his conversation with skipper Ben Stokes and credited his advice for helping him break back into the England team.

"I spoke to Ben (Stokes) quite a lot in depth. When he first started international cricket he wasn't in the shape he is now and I spoke to him about how he got there - mentally, physically, the lot. He really helped me in that stage of building back to this point today."
