Nothing better in sport with cricket in whites: Sourav Ganguly on English performance

Former Indian captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is enjoying the start of the international Test summer in England.

The former left-handed batsman took to his Twitter account during the morning session of the opening Test between hosts England and WTC holders New Zealand to express his excitement.

He also posted a video clip where James Anderson can be seen charging in with six slips waiting in the cordon.

He wrote:

"How fresh this is. Red ball swinging start of a test match, nothing better in sport with cricket in whites ..morning of a test (sic)," Ganguly said.

Meanwhile, England got off to a dream start to the 'new era' as the home side knocked over the Kiwis for a mere 132 inside two sessions.

Batting first, the Blackcaps got off to a disastrous start as champion seamer James Anderson knocked over both Tom Latham and Will Young within a span of his first three overs.

New Zealand were soon reduced to 12/4 when debutant Matty Potts sent skipper Kane Williamson packing for a 22-ball 2.

It kept going downhill for the visitors as Potts (4/13 in 9.2 overs) ran through their middle order to leave them on the brink at 39/6 at the end of the first session.

New Zealand lost their 7th wicket in the form of Kyle Jamieson soon after the Lunch break, and at that stage, it looked as if they would be bowled out under 100.

However, Colin De Grandhomme (42* off 50) and Tim Southee, who chipped in with a brisk 23-ball 26, ensured it wasn't the case as the duo 41 runs for the 8th wicket before the latter perished to Anderson.

Grandhomme and Trent Boult did stick around for a while to push the total to 132 before the innings finally culminated, with Ben Stokes and Potts claiming the last two wickets.

At the end of Day 1, England are 116/7 after 36 overs, with Zak Crawley scoring 43 of them.
