Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan may miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place next month in Pakistan and Dubai. His participation is uncertain as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is waiting for the result of a second test of his bowling action, which is expected in the next two days.

Why Is Shakib’s Participation in Doubt?

Shakib’s troubles started after his bowling action was tested at Loughborough University in England last month, and he failed to pass the test. As a result, he was banned from bowling in both domestic and international cricket. To make things worse, Shakib had to undergo a second test in Chennai, the results of which will determine if he can bowl again.

Bangladesh’s first match in the Champions Trophy is against India on February 20 in Dubai, and all participating teams must submit their final squads by January 12.

Despite the uncertainty, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and BCB president Faruque Ahmed are backing Shakib’s inclusion in the squad. However, BCB’s chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain expressed surprise over the situation.

“It was very shocking to hear that Shakib couldn’t pass the bowling action test (at Loughborough). I will have to find out whether he has tested himself again.

“We have to wait for this information. The board hasn’t instructed us fully on Shakib. I think every minute counts. I am sure we can clarify this in a day or two," Hossain was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Shakib Al Hasan's Recent Form

The 37-year-old star was last seen in action against India in the Test series last year, where Bangladesh lost 0-2. Since then, he has been absent from international cricket. There were talks about Shakib retiring from Test cricket, with a farewell match planned at home, howver, the plans were shelved after he withdrew from South Africa series.

For now, Shakib's participation in the Champions Trophy depends on the results of his second test.
