MS Dhoni is yet to confirm his availability for next year’s IPL 2025 season for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The former Indian captain, aged 43 at the moment, turned up for the franchise earlier this year during IPL 2024, albeit strictly as a player. Mere days prior to the launch of the tournament, Dhoni relinquished his leadership responsibility in favor of rising superstar Ruturaj Gaikwad.
As of now, a CSK source has claimed that the franchise is yet to hear from MS Dhoni regarding his decision of returning to the field in IPL 2025.
MS Dhoni still uncertain, weeks before mega auction
The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to be organised within the next couple of months later this year. As per recent reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might allocate a maximum retention of five players to all franchises in the lead up to the bidding event.
However, a CSK source recently stated that the team management will get a clearer picture only when the BCCI will make a formal decision over the number of retentions. Moreover, the source added that the franchise is yet to hear from its former captain MS Dhoni over his playing availability for next year’s IPL 2025 season.
It is to be noted that while Dhoni played each of CSK’s 14 league matches in IPL 2024 earlier this year, he mostly batted down the order and only faced 73 deliveries throughout the competition. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter, however, smacked 161 runs in the season and maintained a staggering strike rate of 220.54, the second highest among all IPL 2024 batters with more than 100 runs behind Delhi Capitals’ Jake Fraser-McGurk (234.04).
According to IANS, the IPL 2025 mega auction will be precisely organized either during November end or early December.
