Hard work pays off and it certainly did for the talented Tamil Nadu batter, Sai Sudharsan. The batter was rewarded for his stellar run-scoring in the domestic circuit and was handed the Test debut cap as the southpaw will mark his first steps in Test cricket at the Headingley, Leeds against a strong England attack.

20th June, a special day in Indian Cricket history

Gill has confirmed that Sudharsan will bat at number 3 for the Indian side and he follows some of the great Indian legends who have batted at number 3 - Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Today is 20th June and this day is special in Indian cricket's history. Three of the finest Indian cricketers - Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli made their respective red-ball debuts on this day. Interestingly, all three became a household name and went on to play 100-plus Test matches for India. Sudharsan now has a chance to follow in their footsteps, as he, too, makes his debut on June 20.

Sudharsan to follow in the footsteps of another left-hander?

As confirmed by Gill, Sudharsan will bat at number 3 in Headingley. Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain, who made his Test debut in England during the Lord's Test in 1996 also played his first Test innings at the number 3 spot.

The two have striking similarities as both will bat at the same spot and both are left-handers. When Ganguly was selected for the England tour, eyebrows were raised. Similarly, when Sudharsan was picked by the selectors, fans questioned the team management for selecting the southpaw on the basis of his IPL performance.

On his debut, Ganguly silenced his critics and slammed a sensational 131 off 301 balls, and played some delightful strokes to bail India out of a precarious situation. Sudharsan has everything aligned for him and he'll be eager to replicate the same performance at Headingley.
