NED vs WI | 'I can bat anywhere in the top six' - Brandon King

Beginning his career as a middle-order batter for Jamaica, Brandon King has come a long way to bat at the opening position for the West Indies team. He earned a promotion to this slot due to his run-tally of 496 runs in 12 matches of Caribbean Premier League 2019.

However, his drop in form in the recently concluded series against India forced the team management to put him in the middle order. This move has undoubtedly helped the team to seal the away ODI series against the Netherlands.

In the first ODI fixture, King contributed 58* off 51 deliveries and followed it up with an unbeaten 91 off 90 in the subsequent fixture.

For the recent knock, the 27-year-old earned the 'Player of the Match' award as well and interacted with the Cricket West Indies media.

"Yeah, going out there, wickets falling around me… I just had to try and dig in and stay out there for the team," King told CWI media after winning the Player-of-the-Match award.

"Knowing that I was one of the last recognised batsmen out there with Keacy, I thought we just had to stay out there. We weren't chasing a big total, so it was good to keep it simple."

King opined that he can adapt and bat anywhere in the top-six positions. He reckoned that middle-order is a comfortable position for him, as he started his career at that spot.

"As cricketers, when times are good, you have to try and cash in and get as many runs as possible. I'm trying to cash in and feel good out there and trying to capitalise on good form."

King is hopeful that the team carries on to the good form in the Pakistan series as well.

"Actually, [these are] very important [Super league] points," King said. "We haven't had the best fortunes in this format of the game, so it's great to come away with the series win. Extremely happy and hopefully, we can carry it into the last game and then into the next series [in Pakistan]," he added.

Currently, West Indies are at the sixth spot in the Super League table with 7 wins in 17 matches. The Final ODI will be played on June 4 (Friday), and the team will look to complete a series of whitewash.
